The selection of a radiator is an eternal topic. The performance of the cooling system directly affects the stability of the entire system. Moreover, nowadays, the heat generated by CPUs is increasing rapidly. Both toothpaste manufacturers and AMD have launched products with over 200W of power. Therefore, choosing a good radiator is very important. If you claim that you will overclock, then let's take a look at the key points for choosing a radiator together!
1) Even if pressed, is it a tower type or a compact type?
This is the primary issue when choosing a radiator. Radiators are generally mainly of the pressurized type, but for large cases, tower-type radiators are undoubtedly your top choice. This is because they can circulate well within the airflow path inside the frame. Currently, many mid-tower and full-tower cases are based on the tower-type cooling system as the airflow path. Compared to the downward-push type, tower-type cooling has a larger cooling area, but the drawback is that it is too expensive and cannot be used in HTPC. Therefore, the current main value of this lies here. Because it is made very thin, it is easy to fit into small cases.
Let's talk about the integrated water now. In recent years, the development of integrated water has been very rapid. Compared with the former two types, it is smaller in size, easier to install and dismantle, and the overall appearance has also improved significantly. However, the drawbacks are also obvious. The capacity of the coolant and the cold plates are mostly due to reasons such as aluminum plates, and the heat dissipation effect of the integrated water is generally very poor. It is not as good as the air-cooled products in the 100-yuan range. Therefore, when purchasing, please be cautious and do not buy products that are too cheap.
2) Direct contact of heat pipes and mirror bottom
It is well known that the cooling system of ASUS graphics cards has always adopted the "heat pipe non-contact" technology. Compared with the mirror base, the direct contact heat pipe technology reduces costs while ensuring the cooling effect. This is also the main technology of many cooling systems priced at 100 yuan or less. Although the cost of the reflective mirror-based design is high, the gap between it and the CPU is smaller than that of the direct contact heat pipe, so the cooling effect has been significantly improved. The appearance is also more attractive. Therefore, cooling systems priced above 200 yuan are basically equipped with the reflective mirror-based technology. However, when purchasing, there is no need to pay attention to these details. Because you get what you pay for, so you can't expect to buy a product with a mirror base for 100 yuan.
3) Clothing and Recycling
Reflow soldering is one of the two main processes for connecting heat pipes and heat sinks. As the name suggests, the process involves directly connecting the heat pipe to the heat sink through the heat sink. Due to its low cost, it is widely used in low-end heat sinks. In terms of the soldering technology, the connection between the heat pipe and the heat sink will be very firm, but the relative cost will also increase significantly.
4) Fan bearings
Then there are the questions from the fans. Fans are also one of the key components of the radiator. Because no matter how well the body is designed, it will be just like having a terrible fan, leaving a bad impression on the users. Currently, fans mainly use two types of bearings: oil shaft and ball bearings. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Although the fan on the oil shaft is less common in PCs and has excellent noise reduction performance, it has the drawback of short lifespan. Generally speaking, it lasts around 10,000 hours, but for computers, this lifespan is indeed rather short.
5) Nickel plating and blackening
In recent years, the number of side panels has been increasing, and the appearance of the radiator has also received more attention from various manufacturers. In the photo above, the brown heat pipe and aluminum sheet definitely look very out of place in the case. Nickel plating is used on the radiator. Although it is very beautiful, after a period of time, there will be signs of oxidation, and the nickel plating layer itself will start to turn black. Whether it is acceptable depends on personal preference.
